Fundraising event will continue through June
VIRGINIA BEACH, VA – May 19, 2016 – VSA Resorts is changing lives – one good deed at a time. The three luxury resorts nestled at the Virginia Beach Oceanfront are better known for their royal treatment of the family vacation. However, this spring, the resort staff is reaching out to family, friends and visitors to help impact the lives of those in need.
“Domestic violence affects so many people, of all races and demographics,” said Nadine Paniccia, vice president of sales and marketing for VSA Resorts. “Our goal is to support Samaritan House and those in need of safe harbor from abuse.”
VSA Resorts staff kicked off their fundraising event – Spring Clean 2016 benefiting Samaritan House – in April by collecting donations. To date, they have given nearly 90 bags filled with clothes for men, women and children, shoes, toys, books and houseware items.
“I’m blown away by the response from our guests and visitors,” Paniccia said. “Employees and their families have also given so much. The generosity is overwhelming.”
Samaritan House, which opened in Virginia Beach in 1984, provides emergency housing, transitional housing and community outreach to victims of domestic abuse and homeless families. The non-profit relies heavily on donations from the public.
According to National Coalition Against Domestic Violence, one in three women, and one in four men have been victims of some form of physical violence by an intimate partner within their lifetime.
“When you are running for your life, you don’t think about grabbing the soap when you leave,” Paniccia said. “Every little bit helps.”
VSA Resorts has collection sites set up at the Atrium Resort (315 21st Street), Ocean Sands Resort (2207 Atlantic Ave) and Ocean Key Resort (424 Atlantic Ave). If you can’t make it out to a drop-off site, VSA will arrange pick up! Donations will be accepted through the end of June. All donations will be given to the Samaritan House.
