For a fun-filled month check out these four activities:
Special Events Lineup
Outdoor Movie Night
This August one of Virginia Beach’s best loved parks, Mount Trashmore, will be hosting a summer movie night series. Friday, Aug. 12, will feature Home followed by The Peanuts Movie on Friday Aug. 26. Festivities will begin at 7 pm with games and activities for the kids, and the movie will begin at sundown. This is a family friendly event and everyone is welcome. Remember to bring your beach chairs, blankets or pillows or just spread out on the grass. Concession stands will be available so make sure you come hungry!
“Ynot Wednesdays?” is a free summer concert series sponsored by the locally owned Ynot Italian. Does it get better than free? Every Wednesday from 5 to 9 pm all summer long, free music and fun can be found on the Sandler Center Outdoor Plaza in Town Center. You will have a chance to check out fresh produce and other goods from local farmers at the Virginia Beach Farmers Market on the plaza along with Ynot pizza, sandwiches, and gelato. There will also be kid’s art activities inside the Miller Studio Theatre. This event will be held every Wednesday in August and will wrap up on the 31.
Neptune’s 2nd Annual Coastal Craft Beer Festival
This party is perfect for beer lovers, and will be held on August 27 from 1-6 pm at Neptune’s Park on the Oceanfront. The festival will feature more than 50 different kinds of beer from 23 different breweries with exclusive cask ales and a very exclusive Neptune Festival specialty brew.
There will be live music and a smorgasbord of food trucks. Admission to this event is $30 if you purchase your passes ahead of time or $35 if you wait until the day of the festival. Each ticket includes a special souvenir tasting glass and as many tastings as you like. Keep in mind, ticket holders must be 21 years or older to participate, so you might want to find a babysitter for the youngsters.
Africana Virginia Beach Funkfest Beach Party
From August 26 to the 28 Virginia Beach will host the Africana Virginia Beach Funkfest Beach Party at 24th street oceanfront. The Funkfest is a celebration of all things funk with nonstop music on two stages. Everything will kick off on Aug. 26 from 2 pm until 10:45 pm, then Saturday from 10 am until 10:45 pm, and will wrap up on Sunday with performances from 1 pm until 9 pm. The festival is free and open to the public, but preferred seating passes are available for $40 each. Music might be the focus of the festival, but there will be food, merchandise, and dance contests, too.
Virginia Beach is fun during any season. But, with so many options and endless fun, you can be sure to end your summer on a high note in the sand, city, or park. No matter how you like to spend your time, there is something for you.
