Salute to Summer
When: Friday, May 27 at 4:15 pm until Sunday, May 29 at 4:15 pm
Where: The Virginia Beach Oceanfront Boardwalk
Ring in your Memorial Day weekend with some fun at the beach! Salute to Summer is a FREE concert series that spans three stages and three days. It is the perfect way to kick off your summer and celebrate the men and women who serve our nation in the armed forces. Local and regional bands will perform from 8 pm to 10:45 pm each night of the festival. Explore the boardwalk while you listen to live music or find a spot to relax in the sand. The festival will also feature a “Heroes Walk” display that can be enjoyed along the boardwalk from 17th to 31st street. It will showcase essays written by local high school students that explore the sacrifices made by our veterans and service members, and why we honor them on this special day
Pungo Strawberry Festival
When: Friday May 27: 5pm-10pm (Carnival only)
Saturday May 28: 9am-7pm (Carnival open until 10pm)
Sunday May 29: 9am-7pm
Where: 1776 Princess Anne Road, Virginia Beach Va.
A great option for some family fun this weekend is the 33rd annual Pungo Strawberry Festival. Nothing says “summer” quite like fresh strawberries, and there’s no better place to find them than the festival. This time-honored tradition boasts one of the largest carnivals in Virginia and has good times to spare. It is a family event with something for everyone: shopping, local art, arts and crafts, pony rides, a petting zoo, pig races, a military display, carnival rides, and much more! There will be continuous entertainment on three stages, so the good times keep rolling. Of course, there will also be strawberries: fresh strawberries, strawberry shortcake, chocolate covered strawberries, strawberry pizza… you get the idea. The festival is free and open to the public with on site parking available for just $10.
Commonwealth Brewery Memorial Day Summer Kick Off!
When: Monday, May 30th
Where: 2444 Pleasure House Road, Virginia Beach Va.
If your weekend just won’t be complete without some quality beer, head over to the party at Commonwealth Brewery. Commonwealth is tucked way in the Chic’s Beach area in a refurbished fire station. It oozes cool, funky atmosphere and casual fun. On Monday there is a summer season kick off with live music, food trucks, beer, and summer fun. This is a more casual option as far as festivities go and is also a great way to support local Virginia Beach businesses.
