The first weekend in May hosts the Atlantic Coast Kite Festival. It’s free to attend and everyone is invited! There will be contests, prizes and fun for the whole family. A build-your-own kite stand will be set up on 17th Street. It’s a spectacle to see even if you don’t want to fly a kite. Starts at 10AM, on the beach between 16th – 18th Street.
Mother’s Day weekend will be a treat for the whole crew!
Check out the Virginia International PAN Festival, Friday and Saturday. Caribbean music on steel drums–feel like you are transported to an island beach vacation and listen to musician from all over the country come to play! Music will be playing all day Saturday at the 24th Street Pavilion, right off the boardwalk. Listen to the headliner, Jeff Narell & Five Ten, starting at 8:30 PM, Friday and Saturday night.
Want a little more excitement, get tickets for Pungo Off-road Monsters on the Beach, happening all weekend (Friday-Sunday) Watch a monster truck rally with the Atlantic Ocean as a back drop! Tickets cost $15/day.
Want to find something unique for Mom? ViBe Arts District is hosting Art in the Park, at the 18th Street parklet, free for all to see this one day event on Saturday from 10 AM – 4PM. See beautiful art and artisanal goods from local craftsmen.
Take a stroll down the Boardwalk to see the cars of yesteryear, and music to inspire dancing at Beach Music Cruise-In all weekend (Friday-Sunday) three days of free music and classic cars along the boardwalk. The stage is located on 30th Street!
Not on the Oceanfront, but well-worth the trip to beautiful Pungo, Warbirds on the Beach will be sailing through the air all weekend (Friday-Sunday). An airshow like you haven’t seen before! Watch historical WWII era fighter planes dip and zoom through the sky. Day passes are $14-30.
On Saturday and Sunday, go to the Dairy Queen on 17th street to see some swash-buckling, rockin’ music, and a treasure hunt with the Pirate Party on the Beach. It’s a family-fun event that is sure to inspire the whole family’s inner pirate!
Memorial Day WEEKEND! The Official summer kick-off!
Salute to Summer is a great excuse to enjoy the beach-breeze and summer temperatures along the boardwalk, while listening to live music on three stages (17th Street, 24th Street and 31St street). Concerts feature local and regional musicians. Student Essays about historical military conflicts will line the boardwalk from 16th to 32nd Street honoring those who commit their lives to protect and defend our nation. Did we mention that it’s free?
Steel Pier Classic and Art Shows – Starting Saturday, watch professional and amateur surfers compete all weekend in a variety of events, starting daily at 7AM near the 1st Street Jetty. A student art show on the boardwalk between 3rd and 5th Streets will be there for 3 days (Saturday – Monday) with other vendors and the Virginia Beach Surf Art Expo. Sunday begins with a 5k run sponsored by O’Conner Brewery, starting at 7th street. Be sure to watch Hawaiian dancing at 1:30PM near the 1st Street jetty.
